SOLO CAREER

“10 Years (Simply Me)”

10 Years (Simply Me) is an instrumental song I wrote in September 2011, when I moved to London for a year. It was the first time I lived abroad, by myself, and I was adapting to a completely different environment.

The idea came out all of a sudden, during a long night of unrest. While I was reading a letter that my previous girlfriend sent me, I developed a feeling of nostalgia and solitude. So I picked up my guitar and started to play a slow, intimate melody, which was supposed to reflect my mood.

To capture that moment, I recorded this song on my telephone, and left it there for a long time. Only in 2021, 10 years after I wrote this song, I have been able to record it properly. This is why the title of the song is 10 Years. Simply Me refers to the moment it came out, when I was feeling extremely fragile and intimidated by being alone in a new, challenging reality.

An important source of inspiration for this song has been Massimo Varini, a famous Italian guitar player who I had the pleasure to study with for a year, right before writing this song. He released several acoustic albums, among which “My Sides” deeply influenced me and the composition of this song.
